The Live Project’s first aim is to connect with the ancient tradition over the course of two weeks of intensive immersion in the original sources, including the environment, physical context and history of its culture and language. The Live Project’s focus this year is on Euripides’ Orestes, and particularly Orestes’ first monologue and Elektra’s final monody in their native tongue, as entry points into ancient text, language and performance practices.

Our second aim is to help develop approaches to Ancient Hellenic Theatre and beyond for members of the University of the Arts, Drama Centre London, in support of the goals and curriculum of the MA acting course. The intensive workshop will be taught by faculty of the University - Jon Martin and Paul Goodwin - and members of the research staff of the Imalis Centre for Ancient Hellenic Theatre - Vasilios Arabos and Dimitrios Lekkas, amongst others.

Finally, its third aim is the advancement of contemporary practitioners’ contact with the root tradition and its sources, through dialogue with its sister traditions. Among these, the practices that have emerged out of the Stanislavsky system, and particularly those developed by Drama Centre London offer rich grounds to explore together.
Imalis and the Municipality of Epidauros are happy to welcome to Epidauros the students and staff of University of the Arts, Drama Centre London, and look forward to realizing these goals together.
